We don't come across a 300 amp service every day. Most homes are running a single 100 or 200 amp panel - but this one was set up with both, fed directly from the utility. That's a dual-panel configuration that was uncommon even when it was installed back in 1978, and it's even rarer to find one still intact and in solid shape after all these years.

We were out here doing a load calculation to figure out what this service could handle for future additions and upgrades. That's actually one of the most important steps before any electrical panel upgrade or new circuit breaker installation - you have to know what you're working with before you start adding to it. Skipping that step is how people run into real problems down the road.

Here's what stood out to us: whoever did the original work on these panels cared about doing it right. The wiring is laid out cleanly, the breakers are organized, and the overall condition tells a story of quality craftsmanship. That's not something you always see in older electrical work, and it matters - a panel that was installed with care tends to hold up a lot better over time.

If you're thinking about adding square footage, upgrading appliances, or taking on any kind of electrical expansion, a load calculation is the right place to start. It tells you exactly how much capacity you have available and whether your current service can support what you're planning - or whether a panel upgrade or replacement needs to be part of the conversation.

Good original work makes our job easier and keeps your home safer. This setup is a solid example of that.
